THE CODEX PURPUREUS ROSSANO
The Codex Purpureus Rossanensis is a 6th-century Greek oncial manuscript.
It is preserved in the Diocesan and Codex Museum in Rossano Calabro, in the province of Cosenza.
It includes inside the texts of the Gospels of Matthew and Mark, and a series of miniatures that make it one of the oldest illuminated manuscripts of the New Testament preserved.
Its pages are reddish in color (purpureus in Latin).
Codex Rossanensis, toghether with the manuscripts Φ, N, and O, belongs to the group of oncial purpureus manuscripts.
In October 2015, it was recognized as a documentary heritage of humanity and included by UNESCO as one of the 47 new documents in the Memory of the World Register.
